The New iMacs Are Announced

I’ve been hit up by several coworkers over the past couple of days asking me what I think of the new iMac. Being a system admin, this is one of the hazards of the job. The first coworker literally barged into my office yesterday (shattering my concentration for what I was working on) in order to ask. I didn’t even know it was announced, so in order to appease him I browsed on over to the Apple site to check it out with him hovering over my shoulder.

My first impression? That’s an interesting design. My second impression? I bet that sucker would topple over if my youngest got ahold of it. I know that the new monitors announced at the last MacWorld are all the rage, but I’ve got to wonder about the engineering behind these form factors. To me, they seem very easily knocked onto a corner if bumped just the wrong way. I could, however, be wrong about this, and plan to visit my local Apple Store in order to test my theory. I just hope they don’t ban me from coming back when they see me trying to tip one over.

Other than that, I think the design is okay. Hardware specs seem adequate. I personally prefer having some substance to my workstations, and I’m not sure how they’d be received by the workforce, but, the shallow form would be a welcome addition to my already cluttered desk at home.
