Apple and Their Big Legal Stick
There’s a great post over at DrunkenBlog which looks at the lawsuit that Apple has filed against college students for allegedly distributing an early build of Tiger (OS X 10.4) via the BitTorrent network. It’s a good read, with great points of view from prominent members of the Mac community, most notably Woz. Naturally, wishing myself to be prominent, though I’m not in any way, I’m going to throw my hat into the ring…
A Few Different Things…
Not much going on Apple wise, so I thought I’d do a brain dump of stuff…
I’ve had to make some changes to how I operate the site. I use MovableType for my weblog application, and love it to death, except for the one (huge) problem of comment and referrer spam. I’ve been dealing with it as best I could, but it just seems to be getting worse and is becoming a daily job of playing clean up. This has driven me to make the choice of severely restricting who can comment on the site, and eliminating Trackback Pings altogether (not that I’ve had any). If you want to comment on a post, you’re going to need a TypeKey identity to do it. Sorry for any hassles it may cause.
I’ve been having hosting problems as of late, so if you’ve had trouble getting to the site, or sent mail that I never responded to, that’s the reason. I’ve been through heck and back today with my provider. If you know of a reliable (99.999% uptime) host for under $40 a year, let me know about them. Upside to all of the hassle is that my bandwidth usage seems to have been reset, so I probably won’t run out after all.
Today is my wife’s last day working for the same company as me. It’s not worked out the way we hoped it would, so she has taken an offer to return to her previous employer, and for a substantial increase. This is good news. Even though we did really well working together, it was beginning to get old. Now we’ll have our apart time. A new job means a new car for her, so this weekend will be spent looking at Volkswagen Bugs, or Toyota Solaras. She hasn’t made up her mind yet. I’m just along for the ride & to hammer the deal out. I hate buying new cars.
Wait, I almost forgot — there is some Apple news. OS X 10.3.8 was released day before yesterday. I’ve found that network performance is substantially faster in this update. Otherwise, no noticeable change.
