The Most Annoying "Feature" of Tiger

I’d have to say the most annoying new “feature” of 10.4 is the new Finder UI sounds, in particular, the “crunch” sound when emptying the Trash. It’s just a little too over the top if you ask me.

Yes, it can be turned off via the System Prefs, but that means the very handy “You Just Moved Something to the Trash” Ker-Plunk gets turned off too. I rely on that little bugger to let me know if I’ve done some bone headed key stroke without thinking about it. Now it’s either an all or nothing situation. I think Apple needs to give us the option to toggle UI sounds on a per instance basis.

On the flip side, I absolutely dig the new Smart Folders feature. Thanks to Spotlight indexing, it found all 8,000+ image files on my drive in just over 5 seconds. Pretty darn impressive if you ask me.

All in all, after a day of Tiger, the iBook feels much snappier and responsive. I did have a scare with near meltdown when Mail 2.0 wouldn’t import my previous messages no matter what I tried after doing an Archive & Install. Once I got that all worked out, I felt much better. The trick is to import the data as “Other.” Next to check out is “Burn Folders.” Sounds like it could be interesting…
