A Couple of Good Books for Sale

12.15.05 | Site | No Comments

[UPDATE] The books have been sold and will be moving to a very deserving home early in the week. Thanks to all who inquired/offered about them.

I came home today to find that Peachpit had sent me a couple of books that had been arranged as part of a “payment” deal for some work I did for someone nearly a year ago…

Since it had taken so long for them to (never) show up, I figured the person had simply forgotten about our deal. Rather than trying to remind them a third time about it, I just gave up and bought the books on my own.

Now that these have shown up, it leaves me with a second set that’s going do nothing more than sit on the shelf and gather dust. These books are too good for a fate like that. Both are edited by Owen Linzmayer, are very easy reading, and I highly recommend them.

So here’s the deal. If you’ve wanted to study to take the Apple Certified Tech exams (or just learn more about Macs & OS X in general), then these books are for you. All you have to do is be the first person to drop me a line through my contact page above letting me know that you’re willing to pony up the $50 plus shipping (US only) that I’m asking for them (in order to recover part of the $75 I paid for my own set). Once you do, I’ll get right back to you and we’ll finalize the deal.

Cache Out X 4.6.1 Released

12.09.05 | Cache Out X, Coding | 1 Comment

It’s been one heck of a push to get wrapped up, but Cache Out X (COX) has been updated to version 4.6.1, which fixes many of the bugs and issues reported by users of version 4.5.0 b1. If you haven’t already downloaded this little gem, head on over to NoName Scriptware and get yours today.

Now… With COX out of the way (and having picked up a trick or two from previous developers in the process), it’s back to coding Yasu, which will prove to be even better than I had planned.

Onward, ho!

Cache Out X 4.6.1 rc2 Pending

12.06.05 | Coding | No Comments

A new version of Cache Out X is almost ready for release. There were some issues with rc1 that would throw AppleScript errors at launch if the user didn’t have the correct permissions to a folder that the previous version (4.0.1) had created in the local domain Application Support folder.

I have since removed all need to use an App Support folder (mo’ better). Additionally, I’ve added Firefox 1.5 cache cleaning as requested by a user, and an option to clean the Launch Services database.

I’ve got some UI tweaking to do, so I’m figuring for the new release candidate (rc2) to be ready by the weekend. Stay tuned.
