A Change Will Do You Good
The word just came down from on high – there’s a paradigm shift in the air…
Sad as this may be, while the rest of the world is finally cluing into Apple and their new Intel machines, I will be taking a fast-track foray into the M$ nether worlds of SQL 2000 Database Administration, and then moving onto .NET Development as a major change in duties for my day job.
Yes, you read that right. This unwavering Mac enthusiast has been forced to sell out in order to keep his family fed, clothed and housed. Sadly, I have been transferred from the Xanadu of the Art Department to the cold, hostile dungeons of doom known simply as (cue dramatic music)… The IS Department.
“Oh, the pain!”
Wait, did you feel that? I think the earth may have tilted on its axis, just a little… Either that, or it’s my head spinning from the news.
So, what does this mean to you? Probably not a lot. It certainly proves that God really does have a sense of humor (but I knew that already). It also means that my priorities will need to change for just a little while as I traverse the narrow path laid out before me. I have much learning to do in a very short time frame, which will undoubtedly leave me too overcome to even think about Mac software development. But fear not, even if that is the case – I swear, by all that is Good, Righteous and Apple, I will be back to Mac development as soon as I possibly can.
Thank you for sharing in my pain.
We now return you to our current program, already in progress…
Yasu Icon Voting Open
It looks as though I’ve gotten all the entries I’m going to get for the Yasu icon contest. So with that, voting is now officially open to the public. If you cast a vote before, it’s been wiped out to give all entries a fair chance. Sorry ’bout that…
Here’s your chance to have your say in the next version of Yasu. Pop on over to the gallery page and cast your vote now! The polls will remain open until February 1st.
Cache Out X: Testers Needed
Are you one of the lucky ones who have already picked up a new Intel iMac, and, are you a user of Cache Out X? If the answer is yes to both, I need your help in a big way.
I’ve fixed the outstanding issues with COX, and built it as a Universal Binary to run natively on both PPC and Intel processors. Since I don’t yet have an Intel of my own to play with, I need a couple of testers to let me know if COX acts as it should in the brave new x86 world.
Even if you haven’t gotten your Intel machine yet, but would like to help me test the upcoming release on the PPC platform, I’d like to hear from you too. Either way, you can drop me a line using the support email address on the contact page above.
Everything Back In Place
Okay… I do believe that everything is back in place now, and the site as a whole is working the way I want it to. I’m satisfied. For now at least. Maybe. If you come across something that’s not quite right, please let me know right away.
I (finally) managed to get through my big pile of reader mail today. It’s always a good feeling when I’m able to do that. It seems as though I’m getting my fair share of support type questions lately. I don’t mind at all, in fact it’s fun to tackle them. But it sure can be interesting trying to troubleshoot problems through email sometimes.
So, now that reader mail is out of the way, I’ve got other catching up to do. There are a few posts that I’m working on which cover various things that are rattling around in my skull. I’ve got to finish up Yasu 2.0 (as a Universal Binary, naturally), and then I’ve got to squash a few bugs in COX, rebuilding it as a UB too.
Speaking of Yasu. As far as the new icon contest goes, it appears that it was a flop. I got a few responses from individuals who expressed interest, but as of yet, I’ve gotten nothing “tangible” in my inbox. I may just go with the one user who questioned my sanity about why I would want to change the icon at all, thinking it would be a huge mistake on my part (thanks for the input John). So, for those of you who said you’d do something, now is the time to get it to me by sending your submission to the contest email address. What ever I get by this Friday, end of day, is what will be considered and open for voting. The only way I’ll accept anything beyond that date is if you contact me in advance to give me a ETA of when you plan to have something ready — and it better be good if you do.
Please Pardon the Mess
I’m in the process of consolidating everything about the site in an effort to make using it easier for those who visit, and managing it easier for the guy (me) who, well, manages it. If things seem a little screwy, and you’re having troubles finding what you came here looking for, just take a moment to pause, and look carefully for it.
This was all brought about by the fact that I came across this awesome WordPress theme yesterday, and just had to redo the site using it.
So hang in there, everything should be back in order soon…
Hosting Issues
If you’ve been trying to get to the site the past several days, you’ve no doubt found that contact is rather spotty at best. I seem to be having some serious troubles with the stability of my hosting service lately, and will be working on resolving them as soon as possible. Please be patient until I do. Thanks.
Hmmm. Maybe it’s time to go back to hosting the site on my own gear…
Keynote Points
Based on the feed from keynoteuser.liveoakhosting.com. A huge thanks goes out to Brian Peat for keeping up with all of it, by cell phone no less(!). I’ll come back & flesh this out after I view the online keynote QT feed once it’s posted. On with the show…
Yasu Icon Contest Underway
I’ve put a gallery up here (gallery removed) of icons submitted so far. Keep checking back for new entries.
Yasu Icon : Here's a Little Inspiration
Okay then, I’ll kick off the Yasu icon contest with my own submission. Maybe it’ll get some of you who’ve been sitting on the fence into gear to produce something. I’ve gotten one other reply to my bump so far. I’ll wait a day or two to see if I get any more, and then post them online then.
So, whad’ya think? Would you consider this a cool icon sitting in your dock while Yasu’s running? I’d love to hear any feedback via comments if you’ve got something to share…
Not One Response to the Call
I’m a little bummed. I just remembered that I made a shout out for anyone interested in designing an icon for the new version of Yasu a little while back and got absolutely NO (zero, nada, zippo) pings from anyone in reply. That was even with Jim “MacManX” Huff including it in one if his now famous blogroll dives for the world to see.
So what’s up, readers? Is there nobody out there that would like to contribute their talents? Now is your chance if you’re considering doing it. If I don’t get any responses within a week, two at the most, then Yasu 2 sticks with the original lame-o toolbox icon.
You’ve been warned…
