Apple Store – Broomfield, CO

New Apple Store – Broomfield, CO

Well now! This is news! Not that it’s too big a deal to anyone outside of the North Denver area and myself, but I was overly jazzed to learn today that Apple is opening a new store this weekend pretty much smack dab in the middle of the two places I lived growing up as a kid! Just seeing the town name, Broomfield, brought back a ton of memories of the kids I grew up with, and the 700 acre wheat farm in Arvada where I lived for several years.

The Farm

From what I can remember, Broomfield and Arvada were small towns, with vast open areas. I especially remember the panorama to the west of the Rocky Mountains rising to meet the sky. I remember trudging down the long drive way (aka – dirt road) to the farm house in the middle of a raging blizzard with my mother and sister, having to leave the car on the side of the road for fear that we’d not be able to drive up the hill to get out the next day.

I remember my first dog, Sport, who just showed up one sunny day in the middle of winter and never left. He was my playmate on the farm, always going where I went – keeping me out of trouble. When I’d get dropped off at home by the school bus, he’d come running as fast as he could up the quarter mile drive way (dirt road) to greet me. He was my best friend.

I remember sneaking into the drive-in on North Perry St during the summer after we’d moved from the farm house into Broomfield. I remember the kids I grew up with there, and the friends I had. I often wonder where all of them wound up and what their lives turned out to be.

Wow. It’s funny what remembering a place can do. I have a longing to return, just to see what it’s all like now. I’m sure it’s completely different. If you’re local to the area and come across this post, please get in touch with me. I’d like to know if the farm house still stands, and what the area is like now.
