Huntington Beach given rights to title “Surf City USA”

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded Huntington Beach three official registration numbers that permit it to use the designation “Surf City USA” in ads, on beach bags, hats and other beachwear, the city Conference and Visitor’s Bureau announced Friday.

Thank goodness, the long drawn out battle has finally been settled, with HB coming out on top. Santa Cruz is a great surf spot, and they have a wonderful surf museum. But how could anybody possibly argue that a cold water, central-coast break could be called “Surf City USA?” Nope, it had to be a SoCal spot where the sand is warm, the sun shines, and the surf history is rich.
