Yasu 2.7.6 Released

Yasu 2.7.6 has been released to the public. This new version addresses the following:

  • Fixed an issue where Yasu would not remove user cache files that had incorrect permissions.
  • Changed how Yasu logs errors so they’re easier to find in the log file (at the very end now).
  • When Yasu does log errors, the application will perform the final steps (restart, shut down, etc.) after user has dismissed the error notification panel.
  • The Cancel button on the run panel now disables as tasks are being performed, and re-enables between tasks.
  • Other small code factoring.

As always, the latest version can be downloaded from the Yasu page, or updated by selecting “Check for Updates…” in the Yasu application menu.

Yasu 2.7.5 Released

A minor update to Yasu has been released the fixes a bug introduced by changes made for Lion that prevented the app from quitting properly when the main window was closed.

Credit to Dr. Smoke for finding this one.

Yasu Updated for Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion”

A Yasu update has been posted which addresses the handful of issues that popped up in the Lion system release. For the most part, very little changed under the hood, and Yasu still does what it does best as easily as it ever has.

One thing to note, if you try to update from within Yasu by automatic update and for some reason get an “Update Error – The update is improperly signed” error, then simply download from the Yasu page. I don’t know what’s going on there, but it’s probably something I did changing over to the new Sparkle update engine in the last update.

As always, if anything doesn’t seem right, let me know through my contact form. Use “Yasu & Lion” in the subject line so it catches my attention. Either that, or leave a comment here.

NOTE: I’ve added a “known issues” page for stuff that pops up…

Yasu and Lion: Compatibility

Since the question has come up a few times now, I thought I’d throw up a quick note about Yasu compatibility with Apple’s new system, OS X 10.7 (Lion)…

As in the past, with major Mac OS releases like this one, I can’t say for sure Yasu will work with Lion until I’ve been able to install the system on a test machine and fully qualify it. So… Until I’m able to, I can’t guarantee 100% compatibility, and would recommend holding off using it until I can sound the all clear.

Know that as soon as Lion is available and I’ve got it in my grubby mitts, this will be my number one priority to focus on.

Update: I’ve been able to fix some small issues in the Yasu/Lion compatibility area, but I continue to be vexed by the new “feature” Apple added called Application Restore.

Basically, after running Yasu and it rebooting your Mac, Lion will relaunch Yasu once you log back in. I believe it’s due to the system thinking it was halted (rebooted/shut down) improperly – though I am using Apple’s own shutdown methods.

I’ve yet to find a solution to this problem. Since it’s counter to what users would be expecting, I cannot in good conscience release an update and expect them to “deal with it.” I’m continuing to attempt a fix.

More info as I have it.

Yasu Updated to Version 2.7.3

It’s been a while, but Yasu has been updated to version 2.7.3. The latest fixes include:

  • Excluded “~/Library/Safari/LocalStorage/” path from browser history cleaning for OS X 10.6 since Apple stores pertinent info there now.
  • Added additional system kernel cache cleaning routines.
  • Added additional Safari History cache cleaning.
  • Changed to Sparkle Update Engine v1.5
  • Other minor UI tweaks

As always, it’s a recommended update for all users, and can be found on the Yasu page.
