Frequently Asked Questions About Yasu

These are the questions I’m most asked about Yasu. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, drop me a line through my contact form, and maybe I’ll add your question to the list.

Error

I’m running Mountain Lion and Gatekeeper won’t let me open Yasu.

See this post about Yasu and Mountain Lion compatibility, and instructions how to get the application to launch so Gatekeeper won’t complain about it any more.

I don’t use a password on my computer, but Yasu won’t run for me.

If your system password is blank, Yasu will fail when it tries to authenticate under Lion and Mountain Lion. This is due to changes Apple has recently made (Onyx also fails in this manner). This is a bug in Apple’s implementation in AppleScript, and a report has been filed on it.

Until Apple fixes it, there’s little I can do.

I highly recommend using a password on admin accounts on your Mac anyway…

My system seems flaky after running Yasu.

Sometimes after running Yasu (or any other system cleaning app for that matter), and doing a warm reboot (a restart without shutting down), OS X may occasionally think certain cache files still exist when they really don’t. This can make a system seem unstable.

If this happens, the solution is to simply shut down your Mac for a few minutes and then reboot. This should solve any odd behavior you’re experiencing.

How to Use

Yasu is asking for an administrator password, but it’s not working.

The Yasu Authentication Window

Many people mistake the registration code that is emailed to them as the password they’re supposed to enter in this window. Actually, you should be using the password that you use to login to your computer with.

This is because Yasu needs administrator level access to run certain options.

How do I enter my registration code?
