Changes
If you’re a regular visitor, things may look a little different all of a sudden.
Or if you read with RSS (you’re pretty awesome for doing that, btw), you might’ve noticed the site’s feed suddenly has a lot of older posts showing up as new in your reader, and all the little “thought” posts have suddenly vanished.
Well… It’s because I decided to make a change.
I’ve been running my apex domain (jimmitchell.org) on the Micro.blog platform for the last few years. If you or a friend ever needed a blogging platform, I would 100% recommend it.
But, I feel the need for something new.
As awesome as Micro.blog is – and like I said, it really, really is – I don’t have total control over my site using someone else’s semi-closed platform. Since I’m a certified type A control freak, the aspect of being completely hands-on is important to me.
Because of this, I chose to move my apex domain to a Hugo static generated site hosted on Cloudflare pages1. This lets me tweak my workflow so my content gets output exactly the way I want it, and it lets me leverage a robust global infrastructure to serve it all up.
You may be asking “What about Micro.blog, Jim? Are you leaving?”
No… I have no plans to leave Micro.blog whatsoever. The community there is wonderful and Manton is a top-notch aces kind of guy. My plan is to move my Micro.blog presence to a sub-domain (micro.jimmitchell.org) where I can continue to share my thoughts, links, photos and the occasional full post.
And yes, mnml will continue to get the same amount of love it always has.
The plan for this site is to write long form posts, along with code examples and other technical tutorials like I did before I moved to Micro.blog.
As always, thanks for your readership and support. It means a lot to me. Send me an email if you have questions about my decision, or reach out on Mastodon if you’d like to discuss it publicly.

I’m weighing the pros and cons of moving the site to a VPS in the future… ↩︎
