Reflecting on Manton Reece’s prediction of thousands of niche open web apps, I argue it overestimates how many people actually take that path. Most bloggers value simple, stable platforms, while custom CMS projects are usually built and sustained by technically inclined creators serving their own needs.
Just because you don't hand over any of your hard-earned cash, doesn't technically mean it is free. People have given a huge amount of their time to make your life more pleasant.
Personal blogs, once a cherished outlet for deep self-expression, have declined in popularity due to the rise of superficial social media, but they may be poised for a revival as people seek more authentic connections.
